Please Note: to make it easier for children and families, The Faith in Families Devotions for the Nehemiah series will follow the lesson plan Sunday School is using. The bible reading will be out of sync with the worship series but the overall theme is still to study the whole of Nehemiah.

Your Highs and Lows

About a difficulty that you have faced

Nehemiah 3-4

Nehemiah and the people of Jerusalem had a big job ahead of them. The walls were badly burnt and in ruins and many people had to work together, in groups to get the job done.

·        What kinds of work did the people need to do to rebuild the walls? (Clear away rubble, wash stones, build walls, make gates.)

Some people were not happy with the progress that was happening on the rebuilding of the wall.

·        Who were these people, and what did they say?

·        What did they do to try to stop the rebuilding work?

Instead of shouting back at the people who were plotting against Him, Nehemiah prayed to God and chose men to guard the city day and night. He had families work in groups and ensured that they were always armed and ready to fight their attackers if required.

·        What signal did Nehemiah use to warn of an attack?

·        What did the enemies do when they found out Nehemiah’s plan?

God can help us today, just as he helped Nehemiah so many years ago. We will certainly face difficulties and our journey is probably not going to be easy but is we believe and have Faith that God will be with us, we will definitely be able to overcome anything.

·        How does God use difficulties in our lives? (To help us learn to trust Him more and to make us more like He wants us to be.)

·        What difficulties do you think God has helped you through in the past?
