Please Note: to make it easier for children and families, The Faith in Families Devotions for the Nehemiah series will follow the lesson plan Sunday School is using. The bible reading will be out of sync with the worship series but the overall theme is still to study the whole of Nehemiah.

Your Highs and Lows

Something that makes you really excited

Nehemiah 2:9-20

What a great day it must have been when Nehemiah finally set out to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall of the city. He must have been so excited that all the prayer and preparations were finally coming together and he could go and do it. He had a long Journey to get from Shushan to Jerusalem, over 1100 kms and the journey took them almost 3 months.

  •    ·        How do you think Nehemiah felt when he finally reached Jerusalem?
  •    ·        What did he do before he started work and told the people of Jerusalem what he had planned?

Not everyone was happy that Nehemiah wanted to rebuild the walls. Sanballat and Tobiah the governors of Samaria and Ammon hated the Jews didn’t want Jerusalem to become powerful again

·        Did Nehemiah let his enemies stop him from doing what he had come to d

·        What did he say to the people who were insulting him (v20)

The Lord has special work for all Christians to do. Sometimes it is small jobs, sometimes it is large jobs. Sometimes people can get in our way and try to stop us from doing what God has given us to do.

                ·        In what ways can god use us to do his work today?

                ·        What special work do you think the Lord might have for you now and in the future?

No matter who comes against you, or stands in your way, be ready to stand up to them and just as Nehemiah did make a decision to rise up and build the kingdom of God.
