Your highs and lows

Kids - Who is the most talented person you know?

Adults – who was one of the most talented people you knew at school? What happened to that person?

Matthew 25:14 – 30 – The Parable of the Talents

Being put in charge of such a large amount of money was something new for these servants, to be trusted to take care of something so huge!  A talent in these times was worth 20 years of work at the minimum wage (today that would be about $680,000). They didn’t go to school, they didn’t have fancy homes or a huge farm.  These were just basic servants, but the master knew they could be more than that and so he trusted them with his talents.

·        Which servant do you think took the biggest risk with what he was given? How does the master’s treatment of the servants seem to you: Fair? Harsh? Lenient?

The master in the story gave talents in the form of money, today God gives also us talents in the form of skills and abilities.

·        If the master (God) returned today, what would he say of how you have been using what he gave you? Have you ever observed that the more you used a talent or gave something away), the more God gave to you?

God has given each one of us different, wonderful gifts, talents, skills and abilities. He knew from the very beginning of time how he was going to equip us to use those gifts for Him (Psalm 139:13-14).

To use our gifts sometimes requires a risk. We might be afraid of not being good enough, of failing, or losing all of our stuff. But God says that not using our gifts is even worse that not trying at all (just like the servant). When we are generous and faithful with our gifts, “God is able to shower all kinds of blessings on you. In all things and at all times you will have everything you need. You will do more and more good works.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8

·        What can you do this week with the talents God has given you?

Pray for each other and your talents. Ask God to show you how you can use your talents and money for His glory.

God, you are our loving Father and everything that we have comes from you.

Sorry for not always using my talents in the right way, please forgive me.

Thank you for the talents and blessing that you have given me in life.

Please help me to use my talents in the ways that you have planned.

May my talents be used to help others in your world.

In Jesus Name, amen.

Think about each other’s talents and how you can use them… Name the talents that you see in others.

God Bless you as you use your talent/s of ____________ for Him.

May you be rewarded with the best life that He has for you.
